Why does the "spiritual" community play victim?

I thought I knew what this week's blog was going to be about then I saw something that derailed it completely. I've noticed a certain trend on comments in spiritual groups on Facebook but it was a screaming neon sign in one particular. A person I respect greatly asked "Do you secretly harbor any apocalyptic fantasies? Is there a part of civilization or some aspect of human life that you would actually like to see come to an end?" which I found an interesting and thought provoking question. What came was comment upon comment talking about how these "spiritual" people wanted to destroy all things they deemed "negative". The list swung from Diet drinks and corn syrup all the way to oil companies and organized religion. This is the trend that bothers me. Why does it seem like when "spiritual people" are engaged in a discussion it becomes an engagement in duality and a focus on fear and hate.

I don't expect it to be sunshine and rainbows all the time. To me there is a difference between feeling anger and using that to motivate you into constructive action and making choices about boundaries AND using it as an excuse to play the victim role and focus on the duality and fear. It is like a discussion a friend and I had about what he was going through. He was feeling powerless and had been focusing it on the repression he felt about our government. The part to remember is that you always have a choice to follow rules and laws or not. There can be consequences for not following them, but you always have that choice. Yes you can focus on our government and feel powerless but I would say where else are you powerless in your life, you are using them to trigger other more personal experiences that you may be trying to hide from. It is really about seeing the Divine in everything. For example when George W. Bush was elected people were really upset. This was and is my stance. I did not like him. I did not vote for him. I did not want him to be president. He was the perfect president for that time. Society had fallen into a complacent slump. People thought it didn't matter who they voted for and they couldn't make a difference. He woke the country up. His actions pushed others into action. Look how many organizations were created to oppose his administration! That is the divinity in it. That is where my focus goes. The amazing things that came as a result of the things I judge as horrific.

My biggest question is this: if we as a spiritual community truly believe we can create our reality, that our focus is what manifests in the physical, that this experience is an illusion and it is all within us, why would you perpetuate the experience of being a victim, a world where you fear the government, food, corporations, and half the public? Why not spend that energy looking within and empowering yourself?

My last thought is that many express the way they are labeled and judged is what makes them so angry. Maybe the first step in stopping the labeling and judgments is to notice where you do it in your own life.

The fact that you know this and acknowledge it shows that you are focusing on the good. Remember no one is perfect and we all spiral out at times. The trick is recognizing it and pulling ourselves back up. Thank you for your comment.smilies/smiley.gif

I find a lot of truth in your blog.

It is something I get caught up in easily too, getting down because I sometimes find myself focusing far to much on the negative energies. On fear in basis as you say, this only spirals out of control and can really put me in some terrible moods.

Why I continue to do it knowing that it will only depress me...

I guess that's fear as well?

I am still trying to conquer this terrible habit of focusing on negative energies instead of creating positive.

Thank you for sharing this, it certainly hit a note with me and gave me a piece of time to reflect on that.

A reminder to forget the bad and continue to create the good x

Evolve Vision

evolve_visionImagine a world where money was no longer the means of exchange of services but rather love and enthusiasm as its primary exchange. A world full of love and so much diversity that each individual’s enthusiasm became the driving force behind one’s life work and one’s life work was as distinctive as one’s own fingerprint. A world where every job and every service had its own caretaker that performed its tasks with so much love and care they freely wanted to giveaway these services. Tell me? What would this world look like? A world of harmony and service where all needs were met and provided by someone that was just as equally grateful to give as well as they were ready to receive. A world of haves without the not’s. A world of abundance without the lack. A world of love without the suffering. Can you imagine this?
